She's Home!!

My mom thought I might have forgotten who Leah was but NO WAY! Leah came home on Friday night and I was so surprised and happy to see her that I had a little back-sneezing fit. I got over it and managed to lick her face and let her know I love her and missed her soooooo much!
Libby was happy to see Leah too. Can't you just see the excitement on her face?Do you like Leah's hat? My mom knitted it for her!

Leah's Room

Here are a couple of pictures of Leah's room. My mom has been working really hard to get it all done before Leah comes home on Friday for the Thanksgiving break. The pictures aren't great but this is what she's done so far:

  1. Painted the room
  2. Pulled up the old carpeting
  3. Cleaned and treated the wood floors
  4. Installed new quarter round for the molding
  5. Installed new saddles for the closet doors
  6. Sold her old dressers and desk
  7. Moved in a large dresser from another room
  8. Got new bedding & lamp shades & pillows
  9. Made new window treatments
  10. Installed new wooden blinds
  11. Ordered a "sleeper" chair
Whew! Too bad we don't have a before picture because it's hard to appreciate how bad the room looked before. Leah wants my mom to wait until she gets home to hang up the "artwork" and to buy an area rug. We'll post some final pictures after that is done.

Monday, Monday

I've got a case of the Monday blues. I'm at work with my mom, sleeping on the floor in between the discarded monitor and the garbage can feeling bored and lonely. I wanted to stay home with Ziggy today but mom made me come to work with her. This is a nice soft blanket though and I am catching up on my rest so maybe it's not all that bad. Brrrr... it's cold outside too and it is nice and warm here in the office. Ok, the blues are gone. Mondays arent' so bad!

3 Boys on a Couch

My mom has been so busy she hasn't been online in 6 days! The first item we need to announce is that I co-won the Scary Halloween Costume contest on Dogs With Blogs!!! I tied with Homer (he had a really awesome costume) and I get to pick out a prize from the DWB store. I'll be sure to post about it when I get it! Thanks for voting for me :P
Second item which is a little sad - our pretty orange canary, Edward, died yesterday. He was pretty old and had been sick for awhile. My mom says she's relieved that he is happy and healthy again flying around the Bridge with his bride Sylvia. I'm sure he's singing all of his songs, even the one that sounded like a car alarm. So now there are no birds at all in my house! Only 2 dawgs and 2 cats...
My mom wanted to share these pictures with all of you. She calls the series, "Three Boys on a Couch" for obvious reasons. We are getting new couches this weekend and my mom is so excited you'd think she was a kid at Christmas! She says the new couches are going in another part of the living room so me and the cats can't climb up on the kitchen counter any more. That'll work for me and Libby but I can guarantee you that Tommy will still be on the counter.
Finally, my mom has been busy, busy, busy cleaning out and fixing up Leah's room. Leah will be home for Thanksgiving on November 21st and my mom wanted to have it all done for her. Mom painted the room three different colors - very bright yellow, a softer yellow and white. She pulled up the carpet and treated the wood floors, installed some new quarter round for the molding and saddles for the closets and new wooden blinds. The room looks great and is soooooo clean. The door is shut all the time now so me, Ziggy and the cats can't go in there. Not fair! I need to mark that room as my own...

My 100th Post!!!

I've reached a milestone in my blogging career - Post #100. Not every post has been earth-shatteringly enlightening, informative, creative or funny but every post has been from my heart. I've met so many nice dawgs, cats, hampsters and, yes, even humans through this experience! I've received support in sad times and sent out my paws to others during their trials. I always look forward to hearing from my friends and visiting with them also. I can only hope that the next 100 posts will be as fun for me as the first 100 were. Thanks for being there with me :P

Tell your humans not to forget to VOTE today!!!

Popcorn Balls & Pigeons

I didn't need to get all upset worrying about hoards of human children coming to my house on Halloween. We only had 4 kids and they all came at once and they were all my mom's niece's children. Those kids are ok because they have 3 small dawgs and know not to get all up in my face. They leave me alone until I'm ready to talk to them.
My mom got a popcorn ball from the neighbors around the corner that she has been trick-or-treating with since she was a little girl! Mrs. Culver says she has to keep making the popcorn balls because there are still people who come there specially on Halloween just for them (my mom being one of them!) Doesn't it look good? My mom ate it right up and only gave me the crumbs that fell off while she was scoffing it down. Hmpf! This morning my mom looked outside and saw a pigeon in our back yard! What?! We don't live in a city, there are no pigeons hanging around in parks eating bread crumbs here like in the movies. Where the heck did that pigeon come from. Did he hitch a ride out to the Hamptons on the Long Island Rail Road or on someone's car and decide to become a beach bum pigeon?? He flew away when my mom got about 10' away from him. I wonder if he'll come see us again...

Glitch!

Ok, in case you haven't noticed, my mom changed my blog around just a little bit (snickers). In the process she inadvertantly deleted ALL my Doggone Good Blogs and my Awards! She spent half the night last night re-doing my Doggone Good Blogs from memory. If we've forgotten anyone PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE let me know! Also, the awards... She's going to TRY to get them all back on today because they mean soooooo much to us but in case she can't research who gave them to us, please don't be shy, let us know. I don't think I'm going to let her mess around with my blog again... It is her job to type my posts for me cause I'm all paws. Do you like the new look? My mom says it hurts her eyes but I like it cause it SCREAMS "This is a DOG's blog!"

This is ME to a Tee!

Ben the Rotti posted his horrorscope so I thought I would go check out mine at K9 Horoscopes. Here it is:

LEO (My barkday is August 13th)

In his own eyes, the Leo K9, must be top dog in his own pack. He likes to be seen as a leader. He is not aggressive but assertive, he enjoys the mantle of protector, guardian and walking burglar alarm. If you can strike a happy medium where Leo dog does as he's told but still feels important then you will have an enviable dog-person relationship. Rather than adoration, Leo dog loves to be respected. He appreciates his role within the family unit and hopes that you appreciate him too. He often has a very high opinion of himself and can cause quite a fuss if he feels he is being ignored. Never give in to a young Leo dog. He will look on you as a push over he if you succumb to his every whim. Make him earn your respect by showing him he is an appreciated and much loved part of the family but what you say around the house - goes!

Everybody knows I am the King of my dawg house. Though this horrorscope is spot-on, I don't know about the never giving in stuff! Go see yours!

Over-Excited

My mom has been away for a few days visiting Leah for Parent's Weekend at West Virginia University. She got home last night at the stroke of midnight, lucky for her or the Mini may have turned into a pumpkin. I was so overly excited to see her that I went into a very bad reverse-sneezing fit . She finally helped me to calm down by taking me out into the brisk night air for a few deep breaths. Mom went to bed right away but had some difficulty getting to sleep because she had a couple of energy drinks on her long drive home. I snuggled in next to her to help her calm down. My stomach was a little upset and I guess I had a little puking problem during the night because my mom woke up this morning with her hand in my puke. She's a good mom though, she didn't get mad at me and even brought me to work with her today. I feel fine and am enjoying lying on my mom's lap right now. I'm so glad she's home...

She's Movin' On Up to the East Side...

to a de-luxe "estate"...Yes, Chip the chicken has turned her beak up at middle-class life and is now rubbing wings with the upper crust chickens of Southampton. When Bunny died a while back my mom started worrying about how Chip would handle being the sole chicken in our family, especially with winter on the near horizon. Though her little coop was warmed with a heat lamp, winters can be very harsh for a chicken alone. So this morning my mom loaded Chip into the Mini and brought her to the beautiful estate of one of my mom's favorite people. My mom has never actually met the owner but he loves animals and treats them like royalty so that's good enough for her! Mom knows the caretaker and they've been talking about Chip moving in for the last couple of months. Chip was greeted with the clucks of about 20 or so chickens of all different shapes, sizes and colors. She moved right on in and never looked back! Though we're all going to miss Chip, we're so happy that she's got so many new friends to hang out with! Enjoy being a pampered chicken Chip!

Max the Airedale

Judy told my mom a story she heard today about an Airedale Terrier named Max from Coventry, Rhode Island. Max and his human, Bill, got into a car accident in Connecticut about 45 miles away from their home. Max ran into the woods and no one was able to find him but he managed to find his own way home after 3 weeks! It's an amazing story that illustrates the intelligence of dawgs as a whole and airedales in particular! Because I have so many airedale friends, I just had to share this "aire" story with everyone. Enjoy :)

Say It Isn't So!

Earlier this week my mom walked into the "shop" in our back yard to feed Cowboy, Elvis and Patsy and she was SHOCKED to find 4 more kittens in there! Yes, 4! She managed to catch one orange kitten then sat there while wondering what the heck she was going to do with it (she actually used many HBO words to colorfully describe what she was thinking about the whole situation but since my blog is G-Rated I will just say heck). She spied the cooler but it was wet inside so ended up bringing the kitten in the house and putting it in her BIG bathtub.
She went back out and caught a 2nd orange kitten and added him to the tub too. She put towels, a bed, wee wee pads and food and water in there, closed the door and left for work. She called my dad to tell him what she found, using more HBO words. When my dad got home he caught the other two kittens and added them to the tub.
The next day my human sister Jessie came and took the kittens to our Town animal shelter (no-kill). They said we have to catch the mother but my mom has tried and tried and tried. These kittens were about 4 weeks old so we're very hopeful that they will be adopted and have very good lives. If you live near us and would like a kitten, they're fat and cute!
